As the price hike in the sale of rice
continues as a result of the country's new economic policies, the
business-minded people in the South-east have rolled out a subsidized
local rice which is now in full circulation.
According to a report by our reporters, the Willie Obiano-led Anambra State government, says it is
increasing efforts to close the gap in Nigeria’s rice production and
emerging as the third largest producer of rice in the nation making
efforts to shift its revenue source away from crude oil sales.
Photos making rounds online and on
social media, shows that the state is stepping up in its bid to be the
largest producer of one of Nigeria's most common foods in the country.
It was gathered from online sources that
the Anambra State rice is now in circulation in Awka Market, Onitsha,
Aba, Abakaliki, Uyo, and are currently selling at N9,000 per bag as
against the N20,000-N24,000 which other foreign rice currently sells in
the market.
