Lassa fever: 55 persons under Health Watch, says Delta


The Delta State Government has declared 55 persons put under watch following the death of a doctor who was hospitalized  in a private hospital in Asaba, the state capital, and thereafter died in Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra State.
 The Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Azinge, has said that the Lassa fever outbreak  has been brought under control.

National Assembly plans bill to exempt NHIS, others from TSA

The National Assembly said it had commenced plans to remove the National Health Insurance Scheme and other agencies requiring emergency situations from the Treasury Single Account initiative of the Federal Government.
The lawmakers attributed the decision to the impediments encountered in its implementation.
The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Health, Chike Okafor, stated this during a three-day NHIS management retreat in Kaduna with the theme ‘Re-positioning the NHIS towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.’

FG intercepts pirated products worth 10bn




The Federal Government has said that it intercepted and seized products worth N10.3bn that had been pirated, between January 2011 and August 2016.
The Director General of Nigerian Copyright Commission, Mr. Afam Ezekude, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, also said the agency within the same time frame secured 54 convictions for copyright offences.

FG signs $5.1bn rail contracts with Chinese firm



The Federal Government has signed two contracts valued at $5.1bn with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation for the construction and modernisation of rail lines in different parts of the country.
According to the Federal Ministry of Transportation, the two agreements are the Kano-Kaduna Segment 3 of the Lagos-Kano rail modernisation project with a contract sum of $1.68bn, and the Calabar-Port Harcourt Segment 1, which extends to Onne Deep Seaport of the coastal rail project at a cost of $3.4bn.
